I just read a blog post by Golden Trail about the importance of the names of deities in the Cultus Deorum (Roman polytheism), and how nuances and other important aspects of the religion aren’t as apparent to us anymore as they were to the ancients. This on account of the names often being Latin words, or being used as words in certain contexts, revealing the ways in which the ancients thought about these deities, and the names/words used for them. You can find Golden Trails post here. I wanted to say something in this post about how this is also important for the Hellenic religion.
Divine names – or how Latin is no longer a living language
